Exactly what do they mean by "hardcore"? I really want to know. I'm seeing that word being run the sh!t out of with stupid meanings left and right such as blood, graphics, etc. Since when was this "hardcore" actually an offical video game genre?
Last I recall, it was "Hardcore Gamers". Not "hardcore games".
So what makes a game "hardcore, huh? Really.
I don't think anyone can say Smash wasn't really made to be somewhat of a fighter. I mean, since Smash 64 it always had a training mode, which is what most fighters have. Not to mention the training modes had a combo count too. Also, Classic modes and CPU's had "very hard" skill levels for players who knew more than a thing or two about the game. So, yeah. Just my thought. =/

When you idiots think that harcore gaming means over blown graphics, how powerful the system is or the controller itself, then you couldn't be any more wrong. Last I checked, before crap like this meant "hardcore", hardcore gaming meant playing games to the point where it almost becomes apart of your life, reguradless of the console they are on.

If that were ture, Nintendo would't have put so much effort and support in games like Mario Galaxy ( one of the ( if not the ) highest rated gmes this gen ), Twiligt Priness, Metroid Prime 3, Fire Emblem, Metroid Other M (upcoming), Mario Galaxy 2, etc.
The reason nintendo is reaching to the causals or expanded audience is because they rule the market more so than the "hardcores". Nevertheless, nintendo is not forgetting the "hardcores".
The Wii's graphics are great just the way the are. And if you ask me, that should be the where it stops. These are video games we are talking about. While other people actually prefer more real looking games, they don't really need to be. Even if this is to be the future.
Also, it will keep devs focusing more on gameplay rather than how the game's graphics are. Super Mario Galaxy is one the highest rated games this gen (if not the highest game this gen). And guess what? it's not on...
Because last I checked the Nintendo Wii is getting the attention of everyone. Families, Hardcore gamers, Casual gamers, even the Fitness junkies.
But anyway, you can't forget it's a gaming console. So it's mostly to getting the attenion of gamers. Not to menion Ninteno has bee arounnd for a long time with it's major big name titles.

no. I don't feel it's really needed. I mean it's not like it's going to make every single game better. Last-gen and the gens before that didn't need it to make games great. So why should they now?

How many times have we heard that? Any smart person knows the Wii is next-gen, simply because of the things it can do that last-gen couldn't.

You do know that if a console is not hardcore at all, it can not have hardcore games, right? Twilight Princess, one of the first Wii games, is a hardcore game.
Hardcore depends on the games you buy for you console and the gamer him/herself.
Atually, the Wii can offer the same (Resident Evil 4, The Conduit,etc.) and more kinds (Red Steel 2, WiiFit, WiiSports Resort) of games than the PS3 and 360. Which is why Sony and Money$oft are trying to make their console do the same.
You're better off asking the devs who made those games than Nintendo, mate.
